Youtube launches paid subscription channels…

To give a stiff competition to streaming services like Netflix, Google owned YouTube launched its first paid subscription channel. This move by Google might affect the revenue of other streaming services like Hulu, Netflix etc.

According to the YouTube Blog statement the users need to pay subscription fee to watch videos on a paid channel with the minimum fee being 0.99$ per month and the maximum 7.99$/month. The statement also revealed that this step was taken to help the content creator earn some bucks for their creativity.

The starting list of 50 paid channels was released by Google on Thursday. Some of the channels included in this list are Acorn TV, National Geographic Kids, PrimeZone Sports, Baby First Plus and many more. Each channel offers a free trial period of 14 days after which the channel becomes premium. And also the channels provide discount rates yearly.

YouTube also informed that more paid channels will be rolled out in near future and YouTube would help the users in discovering the newly released channels.

Users can subscribe the paid channels and can access the content in it from any device like computer, tablets etc.

Google said recently that there are more than a billion people using YouTube and even if a small fraction of those people subscribe to the paid channels, Google can generate a huge revenue. And as the usage of smartphones is increasing at the rate of knots, this move by Google is surely going to take the company’s revenue to the next level.

One of the popular cliche about YouTube floating on Internet is- “If YouTube were a country, it would be the third largest country in the world after China and India”. This can sum up the growth and popularity of YouTube in recent years.
