How to set ringtone on Xiaomi Redmi phones

Xiaomi Redmi devices always standout in the budget phones range. I always wonder how Xiaomi manages to offer great specs and quality hardware in that price range. Without further delay, let me come to the topic of this article. Redmi phones do have many default ringtones. In case you need to change the default ringtone or set custom ringtone on your Xiaomi Redmi device or set a custom message tone or set different notification tone for each application, you just need to follow few simple steps described below. I suggest you not to download and install any third party application to achieve the same.

Note: The below steps are applicable for all the Redmi phones. (Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S+ etc..,)

Set song as ringtone or recording as a ringtone or custom ringtone on your Redmi Device:

  1. Tap on the ‘Settings’ application
  2. Tap one the option ‘Sound & vibration’ under the category ‘PERSONAL’.
  3. Click on the option ‘Phone ringtone’.
  4. You will be able to see all the available System ringtones in this screen. You can choose one amongst them and click on Apply to set that as ringtone. If you want to choose a different audio file as ringtone which is present in your phone’s internal storage, click on ‘+’ symbol and select the desired file.
  5. Redmi phones have another beautiful option of choosing a ringtone from online. You can just tap on Online tab and search for the music file of your choice and set it as custom ringtone on your Redmi phone.

Note: This sets the ringtone for both the SIMs in your device. Follow the below steps to set a different ringtone for each SIM card in your device.

Set a custom/different ringtone for each SIM card in your Redmi phone:

  1. Tap on the ‘Settings’ application
  2. Tap one the option ‘Sound & vibration’ under the category ‘PERSONAL’.
  3. Click on the option ‘Phone ringtone’.
  4. Enable the option ‘Single SIM settings’
  5. Now you will be able to see the options to set ringtone for each SIM card. Follow the steps 6 and 7 for each SIM card to set a different ringtone for each one of them.
  6. Tap on the SIM of your choice and you will be able to see all the available System ringtones in this screen. You can choose one amongst them and click on Apply to set that as ringtone. If you want to choose a different audio file as ringtone which is present in your phone’s internal storage, click on ‘+’ symbol and select the desired file.
  7. Or tap on ‘Online’ tab and search for the desired music on internet and pick one file.

Set a song or any audio/mp3 file as ringtone on Xiaomi Redmi phone – easiest method of all:

This method employs the out of the box music player provided by your manufacturer.

  • Open the ‘Music’ application
  • Start playing the song of your choice
  • Tap the more () button and click on ‘Set as ringtone’ to choose this song or music file as ringtone.

Set custom ringtone/different ringtone for each contact:

Things will be well organized and it will be easy to make out who is calling you or what kind of notification it is when you set a different ringtone for each thing.

  1. Launch the ‘Contacts’ application
  2. Browse and find the contact for which you need to set ringtone
  3. Tap on ‘Default ringtone’ option to choose from the available system ringtones or choose from internal storage by clicking on ‘+’ symbol or choose from internet by tapping on ‘Online’ tab.

How to change the default notification sound on Redmi phone

  1. Tap on the ‘Settings’ application
  2. Tap one the option ‘Sound & vibration’ under the category ‘PERSONAL’.
  3. Click on the option ‘Default notification sound’ and choose from the options available.

Note: The default notification sound you set in the Settings app will apply to all the notifications you receive from all the applications., If you need a different notification tone for each app, you need to set the same under each app’s settings.

How to change the message received or delivered tone in Redmi phones

  1. Tap on the ‘Settings’ application
  2. Tap one the option ‘Sound & vibration’ under the category ‘PERSONAL’.
  3. Click on the option ‘Message received’ and choose from the options available.
