How to set ringtone on Mi phones

Xiaomi Mi devices always standout and the way they are engineered is definitely appreciable. I always wonder how Xiaomi manages to offer great specs and quality hardware in that price range. The camera they got to offer in the flagship mobile is filled with technology breakthroughs and one would definitely love it. Without further delay, let me come to the topic of this article. Mi phones have many default ringtones. In case you need to change the default ringtone and set custom ringtone of your choice on your Mi device or set a custom message tone or set different notification tone for each app, you just need to follow few simple and easy steps described below. I suggest not to download and install any third party application to do the same.

Note: The below steps are applicable for all the Mi phones. (Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi 4, Mi 4i etc..,)

Set a song or a recording of your choice as ringtone on your Mi device:

1. Tap on the ‘Settings’ application
2. Tap on the option ‘Sound & vibration’ under the category ‘PERSONAL’.
3. Click on the option ‘Phone ringtone’.
4. Now you can choose one amongst the list of available System ringtones and click on Apply to set that as ringtone. If you want to choose a different audio file as ringtone which is present in your phone’s internal storage, click on ‘+’ symbol and select the desired file.
5. Mi phones have another beautiful option of choosing a ringtone from online. You can just tap on ‘Online’ tab and search for the music file of your choice and set it as custom ringtone on your Mi phone.

Note: This sets the same ringtone for both the SIMs in your device. Follow the below steps to set a different ringtone for each SIM card in your device.

Set a different ringtone for each SIM card in your Mi phone:

1. Launch the ‘Settings’ application
2. Click on the option ‘Sound & vibration’ under the category ‘PERSONAL’.
3. Tap on the option ‘Phone ringtone’.
4. Enable the option ‘Single SIM settings’
5. You shall be able to see the options to set ringtone for each SIM card. Follow the steps 6 and 7 for each SIM card to set a different ringtone for each one of them.
6. Tap on the SIM of your choice and you will be able to see all the available System ringtones in this view. You can choose one amongst them and click on ‘Apply’ button to set that as ringtone. If you want to choose a different audio file as ringtone which is present in your phone’s internal storage, click on ‘+’ symbol and select the desired file.
7. Alternatively, you could tap on ‘Online’ tab and search for the desired music on internet and pick one file.

Set a song or any mp3 file as ringtone on Mi phone using music player:

This method employs the out of the box music player provided by your manufacturer.

1. Open the ‘Music’ application
2. Start playing the song of your choice
3. Tap the more (…) button and click on ‘Set as ringtone’ to choose this song or music file as ringtone.

Set custom ringtone/different ringtone for each contact in your Mi smartphone:

Things will be well organized and it will be easy to make out who is calling you or what kind of notification it is when you set a different ringtone for each thing. You could figure out most of the things without actually seeing the phone’s screen.

1. Open the ‘Contacts’ application
2. Browse and find the contact for which you need to set the ringtone of your choice
3. Tap on ‘Default ringtone’ option to choose from the available system ringtones or choose from internal storage by clicking on ‘+’ symbol or choose from internet by tapping on ‘Online’ tab

How to change the default notification sound on Mi phone

1. Launch the ‘Settings’ application
2. Tap on the option ‘Sound & vibration’ under the category ‘PERSONAL’.
3. Click on the option ‘Default notification sound’ and choose from the options available.

Note: The default notification sound you set in the ‘Settings’ app will apply to all the notifications you receive from all the applications. If you need a different notification tone for each app, you need to set the same under each app’s settings.

How to change the message received or delivered tone in Mi phones

1. Click on the ‘Settings’ application
2. Click on the option ‘Sound & vibration’ under the category ‘PERSONAL’.
3. Tap on the option ‘Message received’ and choose from the options available.
